Parents of twins or young children that are similar in age should not be without a double stroller to help them carry their children. Children can tire quickly when out for a stroll, and unfortunately we can only carry so many kids by hand before we are overwhelmed. As such, strollers are quite important when taking the kids out, but there are a few things one needs consider before purchasing a double stroller.
Double strollers, sometimes referred to as tandem or duo strollers, sport many features and styles and there will surely be a perfect stroller for every lifestyle. When deciding on which stroller to get, first determine how you will use it and how frequently. Each stroller has a unique advantage, and there are many options available, including: tandem strollers, sit-and-stands, double joggers, and double umbrella strollers.
For those that love the outdoors, the double jogging stroller is perfect for you. It can be effortlessly maneuvered over practically any terrain without causing you too much grief. This is possible because the double jogging stroller sports large bicycle style wheels, safety straps, and handbrakes. Some come included with roll bars securing the front to keep your child safe in case the stroller flips. The major weakness of this stroller is that it can be quite heavy and occupy a lot of space; you will most likely have trouble pushing this down a narrow aisle in a department store.
Conversely, the tandem stroller is narrow, with the seats designed so that one is in front of the other instead of side-by-side. This stroller is great for parents who tend to visit department stores and malls. Another benefit of the tandem stroller is that it typically contains spacious storage baskets at the bottom compartment for holding things like diaper bags and purses. This specific stroller, though, is hard to maneuver through dirt, grass, or downhill since it tends to tilt to one side or the other. It is also slightly on the heavy side and has trouble fitting in the trunks of smaller cars.
Double Umbrella Stroller
Next, the double umbrella stroller is great for brief trips to the store or mall. It can comfortably seat children thirty pounds and below, but it’s not suitable for infants since the seats do not recline. This style of stroller is slimmer than traditional side-by-side models, so one can push it between most clothing racks. Unlike the previous strollers, this one is lightweight and is collapsible for easy storage in closets and trunks.
Finally, the sit-and-stand is most ideal for parents of a toddler and infant. The infant seat provide support for infant carriers and can also fully recline when the baby has outgrown the carrier. This double stroller also sports a bench seat for toddlers to sit on as well as a platform for children who want to stand. The sit-and-stand is compact, making it ideal for trips to the mall. However, it isn’t suited for outdoor recreation due to its small wheels. It is collapsible and can be placed in most trunks, making it a handy stroller.
